Frozen tells the story of two young sisters who were left to inherit the Kingdom of Arrendelle. When they were little, the older sister, Princess Elsa, accidentally hurt her younger sister, Princess Anna, with her ice magic. She swore to herself that she would not hurt anyone again. Elsa becomes reclusive and often hides herself in her room despite Anna’s pleas to play. After the passing of their parents, Princess Elsa was to be crowned queen. The palace opens to the public during the coronation, much to Anna’s excitement. During the coronation, Anna meets Hans and quickly falls in love with him. Hans proposes marriage, and Anna says yes. She brings her newfound prince to her older sister, now queen, to ask for her blessing. Elsa, surprised by her sister’s sudden engagement, refuses to give her blessing. The two sisters argue, which leads Elsa (who suppressed her magic all these years) to expose her powers in front of all the guests. After being called a monster by the Duke, Elsa runs away to North Mountain and builds a castle for herself using her powers. Unbeknownst to her, suppressing her powers led to her magic engulfing Arendelle in an eternal winter. Anna, distraught over her sister’s sudden disappearance goes on a quest to find Elsa. But the inexperienced Anna needed a guide going into the North Mountain. That’s when she met Kristoff and his highly lovable companion, Sven. Will Anna find Elsa? Find out by catching Frozen the Musical at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre!

The film premiered in 2013 and is based on the screenplay by Jennifer Lee and director Chris Buck. A musical adaptation was announced the following year. It took several years to plan and make, but the musical finally had its trial run in Denver in 2017, followed by opening on Broadway in 2018. During an interview, Tom Schumacher, president of Disney Theatrical Group, said, “The first priority [for Disney Theatrical] … is when you have a property that is as beloved and music-based as Frozen, that has to get an enormous amount of my attention. To say, “How do we take this and make a sophisticated, adult evening of theater out of it?”
